The American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Cameron D. Wright, a general thoracic surgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital, was elected to be the next Executive Director of the Board. Starting in January 2023, Dr. Wright will serve along side the Board's current Executive Director, Dr. David A. Fullerton, for a year. Dr. Wright will assume the position fully in January 2024 and will serve a seven year term until December 2030. Dr. Wright has a long affiliation with the ABTS starting as a question writer (2002-2007) and Oral Guest Examiner (2004-2007) before being elected to serve on the Board first as a Director (2007-2013), then as Vice Chair (2013-2015) and then as Chair (2015-2017). 

Cameron Wright received his BS and MD degrees from the University of Michigan and did his Surgery and Thoracic Surgery residencies at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He is an attending surgeon at the MGH. His clinical interests include robotic lung cancer surgery, thymic tumors, tracheal surgery and pulmonary thromboendarterectomy. He has published over 300 articles, reviews and book chapters and rose to the rank of Professor of Surgery at the Harvard Medical School. He directs the Safety Program for the Department of Surgery at the MGH. He held several leadership positions in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and previously served as the Chair of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He served in the Medical Corps of the United States Army Reserve, deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and retired as a Colonel.
