Frequently Asked Questions
The most frequently asked questions about SESATS are listed below. If you do not see the question you are seeking, please contact the Board office at [email protected].

SESATS 13:

Yes, once you have logged into the SESATS program, you can log in and out at any time (given that the program is supported by the ABTS).

SESATS XIII (13) offers Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits.

Devices
The web version functions on tablets, including iPad, Microsoft Windows tablets, Amazon Kindle Fire, and other Android devices.

Mobile phone screen resolution is not ideal for SESATS. If you have technical inquiries, we will recommend that you use a PC (rather than a tablet or phone) and ensure that your browser (ie. Google Chrome is recommended) version is up-to-date.

Browsers

SESATS is a web-based application, and therefore does not have specific OS requirements. It does, however, have certain browser requirements. We do not recommend Internet Explorer. We have tested the most popular browsers and most recent versions:

Google Chrome - the most recent version is recommended

Safari - the most recent version recommended

Firefox - the most recent version recommended

Edge - the most recent version is recommended

If your ABTS certificate expires in 2023, 2024, or 2025 and your MOC application is approved, then you will need to take and pass the 10-year MOC Exam.

The latest SESATS version is SESATS XIII (13).
SESATS XIII offers Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits.

There are no longer CMEs associated with SESATS X (10), SESATS XI (11), or SESATS XII (12).

If you are not sure when your primary thoracic certificate expires, please contact the ABTS office at 312-202-5900 or [email protected]

You must complete all 4 sections of SESATS (ie. General Thoracic, Adult Cardiac, Congenital, and Critical Care) before the “Search and Review Questions” function becomes available (ie. unlocked). The comprehensive review function enables the user to search the program. Your valid user login is also required to use SESATS in Review Mode as the ABTS may monitor your time spent in the program.

To be eligible to claim CME credits, completion of all 4 sections of SESATS is required. A compulsive study versus a superficial review of sections is evident in the ABTS internal time tracking data for each question. All questions must be answered. Your requested total CME hours should reflect the actual time spent while answering the item and using the program as a study tool.

When you have completed all 4 assessments, a popup message will appear to take you to the required survey. You must successfully complete the entire SESATS activity and the required survey in order to request or receive any CME credits for the activity. After answering the survey questions, you will see a popup message prompting you to enter the number of Category I CME hours you are requesting to claim. Completion of the assessments and survey are expected to require 70 hours.

The answer files and examination timers will be reviewed in the Penn State Hershey CME office after SESATS and the required post-test CME survey are completed. A certificate will be sent via email within 2 weeks. Gross discrepancies between internal exam time tracking and claimed CME hours will be resolved by the ABTS.

Writers typically construct 10 full questions complete with one clear answer and three distractors (incorrect answers), thorough evidence-based critiques, and carefully chosen, current references with PubMed links are required. High-quality media elements, such as images or video clips (eg. CT, echo), are encouraged to accompany and enrich the topics.
